Travel to Spark

A Travel Blog

Uncategorized · March 9, 2023

Welcome to Travel to Spark

This journey began over three years ago when my friend Alexis suggested I start my own travel blog. I tossed the idea around my head for a while. I jotted down inspiration on a notes app on my phone, and took Brit&Co courses to learn more about website building, photography and branding. And yet, I continued to procrastinate.

I even tried making verbal commitments by sharing with friends and family to get myself motivated to start, including making my friend Julia as my accountability buddy. However, I still struggled to take the leap. I had many starts and stops until New Years Day 2023. My husband challenged me with a thoughtful reminder of how much time I have spent researching, thinking, dreaming and talking about this blog. As I looked around at the rainy weather and the open day ahead of me, his words were the final push I needed to get started.

Starting this blog has challenged me to be vulnerable as I begin to write and share not only travel guides, but my thoughts and reflections about my travel experiences. Well 2023 is the year to be brave! After so much worrying, contemplating, and uncertainty of the past few years, especially in the world of travel, I have set an intention for myself this year to engage in novel experiences, and take more risks.

Here at Travel to Spark, let this space become your home to spark your own intentions for travel in this year and years to come. Whether it is to start planning your first solo trip, international trip, road trip, or explore your local surroundings with mindful intention. Let this place be your spark for your journey to come.

Thinking back to these solo moments where I proved to myself that I am stronger than I know and that I can handle the uncomfortable helps. Solo travel has a way of pushing me that makes me thrive. As a mom of 2, 2 & under, I dream of going back to that solo travel and finding more sparks of joy. One day soon!

This week has been Busy! A 5 hour flight with kids, online trainings, never ending laundry, finding childcare and an overstuffed to do list. Everything in me is telling me to go faster, while I am trying to remind myself to Slow Down. Like being in vacay mode during the day to day.

This warm Spring day is reminding me of my time in This warm Spring day is reminding me of my time in Belize. It's that warm joyful feeling of being content while also excited for what may come next. Being covered in these blue morpho butterflies brought out so much child-like joy. The Green Hills butterfly ranch was one of my favorite activities while honeymooning in Belize!
Have you been to Belize and seen the butterflies?

Speaking of PCS moves, here's a throw back photo f Speaking of PCS moves, here's a throw back photo from 3 years ago... which was two PCS moves ago when we lived in Southern Maryland. A lot can happen in 3 years! We loved exploring the local farms and strawberry picking was an annual activity each spring. We made plenty of strawberry oat bars from our berries to prep our freezer stock for postpartum.

With each military move as a family I have learned to find little gems no matter when in the world we live. What is your favorite gem in your hometown? Curious to learn more about what to do in Southern Maryland? Check out the blog (link in bio)!

Life has been busy, messy. One pink bag became two Life has been busy, messy. One pink bag became two as we welcomed our 2nd baby girl in June. Since then we traveled a TON as a family, PCS'ed to California, and unpacked one too many boxes. Along the way I have learned A LOT about what makes traveling easier with littles, and being a mom to two. I am excited to share more about our adventures in Europe, and how we've been exploring our new hometown. Follow along @traveltospark and more on the blog traveltospark.com
I've had my fair share of cringe-worthy travel mom I've had my fair share of cringe-worthy travel moments. That feeling when your skin crawls and you just want to curl into yourself. Thankfully they now make great stories. Like when I accidentally stayed at a haunted hotel in Savannah on Halloween weekend. Whoops.
What is your most cringe-worthy travel moment?
